【針尾送信所・針尾無線塔】旧海軍・ 長崎県
0長崎県佐世保市、西海橋の近くにそそり立つ、鉄筋コンクリート製の三本の塔。
針尾無線塔は大正11（1922）年、旧日本海軍の手によって4年の歳月と155万円（現在の価値で250億円相当！）の巨額の費用を投じて建設されました。いづれも高さ約136ｍ、周囲38ｍ、塔の底面積115㎡（畳74畳分）の無線塔3本が300ｍの間隔を置いて正三角形に配置されています。
映画「山本五十六」でも描かれた、昭和16（1941）年12月8日の太平洋戦争の勃発の口火を切った真珠湾攻撃の暗号電文「ニイタカヤマノボレ1208」は、この無線塔でも中継されたともいわれています。
終戦後は海上保安庁が管理し、1997年にその役割を終えました。2013年3月に国重要文化財（建造物）に指定され、施設の一部公開を開始し、2016年には日本遺産に認定された「鎮守府 横須賀･呉･佐世保･舞鶴〜日本近代化の躍動を体感できるまち〜」の構成文化財の一つにもなっています。
現地では「針尾無線塔保存会」がガイドや管理を行っています。
2022年5月に放送されたNHK土曜ドラマ「17才の帝国」では無線塔が作中において重要な存在であるAI「ソロン」として登場、電信室は閣議室として登場しました。
針尾無線塔の魅力は、なんといってもその圧倒的な存在感です。海に突き出た針尾島にそびえ立つ3本の塔は、遠くからでもよく見えます。その姿は、まるで未来都市から来たようなSFチックな雰囲気を醸し出しており、見る者を魅了します。

Three reinforced concrete towers stand near Saikai Bridge in Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture. The Hario Radio Tower was built in 1922 by the former Japanese Navy over a period of four years and at a huge cost of 1.55 million yen (equivalent to 25 billion yen in today's terms!). Three radio towers, all approximately 136 m high, 38 m in circumference, and 115 m2 (74 tatami mats) in base area, are arranged in an equilateral triangle with an interval of 300 m. The coded message ``Niitakayama no Bole 1208'' from the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 8, 1941, which sparked the outbreak of the Pacific War, was also depicted in the movie ``Isoroku Yamamoto'' at this radio tower. It is also said that it was relayed.
After the end of the war, it was managed by the Japan Coast Guard, and its role ended in 1997. It was designated as a National Important Cultural Property (Building) in March 2013, and a portion of the facility was opened to the public, and in 2016, it was designated as a Japanese Heritage Site. It is also one of the constituent cultural assets of ``A town where you can experience the dynamism of the city''.
The Hario Radio Tower Preservation Society provides guidance and management on site.
In the NHK Saturday drama "17-Year-Old Empire" broadcast in May 2022, the radio tower appeared as the AI "Solon", which is an important presence in the story, and the telegraph room appeared as the cabinet room.
The charm of the Hario radio tower is its overwhelming presence. The three towers that stand on Hario Island, which juts out into the sea, can be clearly seen from a distance. Its appearance creates a sci-fi atmosphere, as if it came from a futuristic city, and it fascinates those who see it.
