My reviews cover indie games that i have bought, had gifted to me and have been provided by developers for review. In This Episode I get to try another entry in the souls-like genre, Morbid - The 7 Acolytes by Merge Games, the creators of the excellent RPG Sparklite.
Morbid combines an isometric RPG in the tradition of the Legend of Zelda with visceral combat. It also takes heavy inspiration from classical horror works such as HP Lovecraft and HR Giger.The player controls an initiate of the Holy order of the Knights of Dibrom. They are tasked with destroying the 7 Acolytes, twisted abominations created by the Dark Gods known as the Gahar. The Gahar control the land of Solya and its your duty to free the people from their influence.
This game did recieve criticism for issues particularly around balance and the controls and while some of these have merit i still enjoyed the game s theme, atmosphere and amazing art direction. However I falls short of what i would define as a souls-like game.

Succeed, and you'll free the kingdom from the heavy yoke of their terror. Fail, and the malicious gods rule on, as the Acolytes rise anew, and madness prevails.
