Mordor Mischief 8: in which Gryfflet manages not to die again
Gryfflet has been keeping company with Legolas and Gimli, pondering lessons learned last session. He therefore sets off with more caution than last time while we consider the role he is playing here in Mordor. He locates the last of Spakorth's errant Stout-axe Dwarves and sends them home while advancing his search for the lieutenants of Dulgabêth. Spakorth himself is unhappy to hear about the fleeing spirits but is confident he can explain them to his Mistress: he is happier to hear that such searchers as survived have been recalled and invites Gryfflet to join him in the barracks of Lûghash via a hidden pathway. Gimli is already there, so Spakorth asks us to help around the place while they talk. This includes collecting and distributing rations to the busy smiths downstairs, burying slain Dwarves in the surrounding area, and wreaking revenge on their killers; he is also asked to seek out documentation relating to the missing Stout-axe king and to collect materials to create said king a fitting weapon ready for his return. Rations distributed, Gryfflet sets out to fulfil his tasks while we discuss more Lore, pausing only to pick up our first Shadowed Page, part of the story of Sauron's rule in Mordor. We recover enough documents to reveal schism within the Order of the Eye, a group dedicated to resurrecting Sauron: it seems that Spakorth's Mistress was formerly a member but has been expelled. We continue the search into an area infested with dead spirits which need to be dealt with but Gryfflet decides to check in with Brungos in case there is more to do. This proves fortuitous as Covadil the scholar has wandered into possible danger and Brungos is concerned. We catch up with her outside Lûghash just in time to conclude the session.
"Gimli's like 'Again…'!"
"Yes! 'Measly rations'! Love it!"
"That's pretty burglarious!"
"Oh look, it's a barber's shop!"
"I really like your hat!"
"He's kicking the corpse? That is so rude!"
"I'm going to actually just kill the dragon!"
"I'm not going to go down there, I'm just going over here!"
"Is it like an intrinsically disturbing number?"
"So much fun I lost track of time!"
Lore discussed this week included the conquest of Mordor, comparing and contrasting the treatment thereof in the book and in the game; lost Elves of various origins; and the sources for Dwarven public names.
