1Mortal Kombat is a fighting game released in arcades in 1992, developed and published by Midway Games, and receiving home versions for several consoles by Acclaim Entertainment. The game's story centers on a martial arts tournament with global consequences, which attracts competitors of varied backgrounds and purposes. Developed in just ten months, the game had digitized graphics based on footage of real actors and stood out for its violence, with characters bleeding from each blow received and being able to perform Finishing, graphically and bloodily executing a defeated opponent. The game's success spawned a series with many sequels and spin-off works, including a film in 1995.
