A nova versão 4.0 saiu em dezembro de 2020 com diversas correções de bugs, além de remasterização (técnica by BoBNOSTALGIC) de vários cenários e efeitos dos personagens. Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Earth foi baseado nos jogos oficiais MK, MK II e Ultimate MK 3, além do Mugen MK Project by Borg117.
