Spider-Man is one of the most popular comic book characters, so of course, his figures are also among the most popular (and valuable) for collectors.
Spider-Man is about to become all about the Multiverse in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. New Spider-Man movies always mean new toys, but there are nearly infinite dimensions of Spider-Man action figures out there already from a variety of toy companies. Some of them are very rare and very expensive.
Hundreds of Spider-Man figures have been produced over the years, from Hasbro, LEGO, Funko, and many more. Some of them gain value with time. Some of them command a hefty premium right of the gate, thanks to their limited nature. The values in this list are based on typical eBay auction prices, and are a rough average of the values of the various available conditions of the figures (from loose and in good condition to complete-in-package and in mint/near-mint condition).
1. San-Diego Comic Con Lego Spider-Man: $15,000
This little Lego figure from 2013 is actually quite a rare item that can sell for a pretty penny. It can sell for anywhere from $3,000-$4,000 depending on condition and if the figure is still in its original packaging. This was actually from a raffle at SDCC, which is what makes it even more rare and valuable for collectors. You wouldn’t necessarily imagine that a tiny little Lego could be so expensive, but this one most certainly is. That makes it one of the most valuable Spider-Man figures, in a rather tiny package.
2. Tobey Maguire's Original Spider-Man Suit: $1.5M
Who some consider to be the best live-action Spider-Man we have ever gotten, this suit broke the record a couple of years ago selling for $1.5 million dollars at an auction for charity. Not only is this iconic but it was worn by Tobey Maguire himself throughout the filming of the first movie, but this is one of the most iconic superhero suits to ever make it to the big-screen. Makes you wonder if whoever bought it actually wears it.
3. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse x Nike Air Jordan 1's: $10,000
A Spider-Man version of the Air Jordan 1 is slated to release during the Los Angeles premiere of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Titled “Origin Story,” the design draws inspiration from main character Miles Morales donning his own pair of AJ1’s in the CGI film. The overall colorway in red, black and white stays true to the OG sneaker theme, while additional details including reflective material and dotted patterns along the upper are inspired by the protagonist’s costume.
The first batch of the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG “Origin Story” dropped on December 1, 2018 at the Regency Village Theater in Westwood which was handed out with a special box which now resells for up to $10,000 depending on your size.
4. Amazing Fantasy 15 (First Appearance of Spider-Man): $3.5M
The sale of Amazing Fantasy no. 15, featuring the first appearance of Spider-Man, has set the record for the most expensive comic ever sold.
The comic sold 5 years for $3.6 million as part of Heritage Auction’s Signature Comics & Comic Art auction being held Sept. 8 to 12.
The senses-shattering sale beat out the previous record, Action Comics no. 1, published in 1938 and featuring the first appearance of Superman, which sold privately for $3.25 million earlier this year. The Spider-Man comic is graded CGC 9.6 and is one of only four copies known to exist in that near-mint condition. There are no copies in CGC 9.8, which is the next grade above.
Amazing Fantasy no. 15, from Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, introduced readers to wallflower Peter Parker, who gains incredible powers but whose selfishness leads to the death of his beloved Uncle Ben, leading him to learn the lesson of the great responsibility that comes with great power. The comic proved very popular and launched Spider-Man into his own month periodical. The hero quickly proved to be Marvel’s most popular hero and led to a cartoon and newspaper strip. In modern times, Spider-Man is more popular than ever, headlining million unit-selling video games and billion dollar movie franchises.
