My Experience with AMD Processors and Why I am Skeptical of the New AMD Processors
I was mistaken that AMD didn't compare Ryzen to Intel's 8 core CPUs and completely missed that. I apologize. This video is only intended as my own thoughts. Nothing more. Please don't take anything too seriously. It is only based on my experiences.
Today, March 2nd 2017, marks the release of AMD's new Ryzen 7 processor (CPU). The new Ryzen 7 CPU is an octa-core CPU designed for gaming, streaming, VR and a host of other tasks. AMD has released Ryzen as some really good competition to Intel's mainstream processors. Ryzen 7 has 8 CPU cores, with 3 different models. There's Ryzen 1700, 1700x and 1800x, with the 1800x being the best and most expensive of the 3. The price of this new AMD processor is only at $499 USD! Extremely cheap compared to Intel's quad-core processors! But here is why I am skeptical of the new AMD Ryzen 7 CPU processors, based on my own experiences with AMD.
My current CPU is an AMD A6-5400K APU, which is marketed as being a dual-core processor. When I bought the computer, the box I received it in said that this AMD A6-5400K APU was a quad-core processor. I found out a year ago that it's actually a dual-core, BUT... my computer is only using a single core... I have tried everything I can. Everything, except for Task Manager, tells me that there are 2 cores and that both are being used.
I found some information on the internet that basically states AMD's CPUs only have half the cores that they say they have. This all has to do with modules, which I don't fully understand. So why is AMD comparing the performance of Intel's quad-core CPU with their new Ryzen 7 octa-core CPU? Wouldn't it make more sense to compare an 8 core with an 8 core than an 8 core with a 4 core? It makes a whole lot more sense to me.
AMD zen boasts some great performance and it does seem to be pretty good. But just because it is good, does not mean that it is as it is hyped up to be. Does Ryzen's octa-core CPU actually have 8 cores? Or is it truly 4 cores, but utilizes AMD's module technology as well as threads to make it equal 8 cores?
*Now, I have not tested the new AMD Ryzen 7 CPU for myself and it is unlikely that I will be able to try it out any time soon. These thoughts are all based on my own personal experiences.*
