My First Ever Nuzlocke Experience - Part 01 - Pokémon FireRed Nuzlocke
2Alright, time for something new!
Pokémon FireRed Nuzlocke, my first ever Nuzlocke experience.
Cause sometimes you just want to make your life harder. And what's better for that kinda thing than a challenge mode.
But what IS a Nuzlocke?
Well, it is rather simple. As mentioned it is a challenge mode for Pokémon games in which you take up a series of rules that are supposed to make the experience not only much more difficult, but also more tense and exciting.
The rules are many and everyone uses slightly different version of them but for the most part two rules are always there. When your Pokémon faints, they are unlived and you can no longer use them. And you can only catch the first Pokémon of any area, that means routes, dungeons etc.
The ruleset I am using is ever evolving just like the Pokémon themselves and you can read it over at my Twitch in the about page, on my Discord or over on Twitter. I am also gonna post it on the first episode of this playthrough and will update it as it changes and I remember to do so.
Ruleset:
- If a Pokémon is defeated, it is considered dead and needs to be either put in the PC never to be used again or released if its impossible to reach PC.
- I can only catch the first Pokémon I find in a zone/area/dungeon/route etc.
- If that Pokémon is defeated or escapes in some way, I cannot get a Pokémon for that zone/area/dungeon/route etc.
- If the Pokémon is a Shiny, I get to catch it even if it violates other rules. Cause my god, its a Shiny. We might as well have won a lottery there. This doesn't apply to Shiny Pokémon that are story relevant like the Red Gyarados.
- I have to nickname all Pokémon I catch. After people in chat if possible. If I fail to nickname a Pokémon, it is considered dead according to first rule.
- The ruleset for catching only starts the moment we get our first Pokéball.
- The "first wild Pokémon in each area" rule does not apply in an area until a species or evolution line is encountered that has not been caught yet.
- If we lose in a battle (ie all Pokémon die in a battle), we are considered dead and have to restart the entire run.
- I can gain and use Pokémon from NPCs and eggs but cannot do trades with other players or even something like mystery gifts.
- The goal is to finish the main story, not side content or post-game.
Anyway, now that everything is explained, lets bite into it, eh?
I mean, how difficult could it possibly be?
