By the grace of God, dietary & lifestyle changes, and a daily fight, it's been 17 years (18 in March) since Ive had the diagnosis of non specific interstate pneumonia (NSIP) with pulmonary fibrosis (PF), an interstitial lung disease. In a nutshell, the tissue of my lungs between my airways swells and has begun to turn to irreparable scar tissue.

There are treatments, but there is no cure for pulmonary fibrosis outside of a lung transplant, even then, the average life expectancy following a transplant is 4.6 years. NSIP is luckily not as bad a prognosis as other forms of PF such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, however NSIP doesnt always include fibrosis as mine does. The problem is, so little is still known. Ive been living with related respiratory problems for years and I just dont talk about it, its become as much part of me as anything else. I throw myself into movies, games, or helping others as it's what helps my strength.

But, Ive finally decided to share as I believe Ive been able to live so long after receiving that diagnosis because of early detection, my persistence, and not taking "nothing's wrong" as an answer when chest XRs kept coming back clear!

If I can relay info that can provide one individual an extra day, that, to me, is worth all of my days.
