The Revenant's Hunt is the 16th installement in the Mystery Case Files series. It´s the fifth game in the series to be developed by Eipix Entertainment.
You're off to America! Reports of a supernatural creature terrorizing the town of Avondel have brought you across the pond. This won’t be an easy task as you race against the clock to uncover the dark secrets behind a fiery crash from the 1980's. Do you have what it takes to stop the dead from destroying the living? Find out in this spine-tingling Hidden-Object Puzzle adventure!
The game starts with a cutscene in which Malcolm DeVries visits the grave of Alvin Croaker and is then killed by Alvin in the form of a Revenant.
A short time later the Master Detective is send to the town of Avondel in the USA to investigate on Malcolm DeVries' death. He has been engaged by Frances Boyle, a friend of the deceased person and the owner of the local toy factory.
The Detective learns that a Revenant, an undead being haunts Avondel and took the form of Alvin Croaker. His plannend victims are soon revealed: Theodore Irving, Frances Boyle and an unknown fourth person.
After a short investigation the Detective founds herself in a fight against the Revenant side by side with Theodore in his house. After beating the creature Theodore follows the undead human to an old mill and is killed there.
The Detective then interrogates Alvin's sister, but is unable to gain more information on what happened.
After reaching the center of the town and the old toy factory of the Boyle family, she wittnesses Frances Boyle being taken away by the Revenant. Through an audio recording Frances reveals to the Detective that Frances, Theodore and Malcolm killed Alvin years ago and that Malcolm due to remorse used Alvin's old jacket to summon him in the form of a Revenant after more than 30 years. She also tells the Detective that the fourth victim will be Eliza Hale her maid who is in fact Frances' and Alvin's daughter nobody knows about.
The Detective is able to fight of the Revenant and protect Eliza. With the help of a glass filled with Eliza's blood the Detective makes the Revenant chase her instead of Eliza.
In the gallery of Malcolm DeVries the Detective learns the horrible truth about what happened thirty years ago:
At some point Alvin and Frances fell in love. They planned to run away after the prom and never return to the hated city even though Alvin was worried about his sister´s future.
At the prom night Alvin left the party very early and started driving to Frances´ and his secret love nest in the hills however, Theodore Irving and Malcolm DeVries accompanied Frances and brought her to the love nest with their car. On the street they closed in on Alvin and Theodore who drove the car started to chase after Alvin and eventually rammed Alvin on his bike and killed him.
Theodore and Malcolm burned down the whole scene to masque the murder while Frances took Alvin´s jacket from his dead body. Frances would later give birth to Eliza, the secret daughter of her and Alvin who was later adopted by Marge Hale, the long time maid of the Boyle family.
After learning the truth the Detective is confronted by Alvin one last time, but is able to burn his original jacket and so destroys the Revenant.
After informing Eliza and her mother Marge that the threat is gone, the Detective leaves Avondel.
