Namco System 246 Boot program error captured from real hardware
Real arcade hardware recorded using the Elgato Cam-link 4K and the OSSC. Upscaled to 4K 60FPS.
Program Boot error directly captured from a Namco system 246 (Driving) pcb. This screen is usually blacked out and not shown through the Namco motherboard vga ports as the protocols on the pcb prevent it from being shown (similar to how Konami’s python 2 hardware prevents the PlayStation 2 boot screen from showing on the arcade monitor while booting up the game) . The only way to see this error screen on a real arcade system is to unplug the AV cable and plug in either a VGA/SCART or Component video cable on the PlayStation 2 motherboard’s multi AV out port. This is also the screen that’s shown on the emulator so far. This is also known as “the screen of death”. This is not that interesting, let’s be real now. 🤨
Now, you maybe asking: “what causes this?”
Well, one cause of this is that no dongle is inserted or is inserted in the wrong slot. Another cause is that the media file is incorrect (most of the time it’s usually a black screen and the game won’t boot.) the ribbon cables connecting the PlayStation 2 motherboard and the Namco Main board are disconnected, the controller/memory card port on the ps2 motherboard is disconnected and/or damaged, the resistors (or capacitors) near the ps2 controller port clip connector are damaged, and the worst one being that the dongle is bad or has been damaged.
