The South Atlantic Anomaly has piqued the interest of scientists for years. NASA compares it to a "dent" in Earth's magnetic field or a "pothole in space". The diminished magnetic field strength inside the anomaly means that equipment onboard satellites can short-circuit. The South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) is a massive magnetic anomaly that has baffled scientists for over a decade. NASA's Sabaka: "It's critical that we continue to observe the SAA through continuous missions, so that we can create models and forecasts".
