Sadly, I didn't take the 1st place position in the end, but this WAS a late-in-the-game event challenge, and I was barely able to win it the first time. If you don't take the lead and KEEP it, you're not gonna make it. The opponent/police AI scales nicely in terms of difficulty over the course of the career mode, so it gets really intense in later events. But it's fun--it's the exact opposite of The Getaway.
I'm probably tempting copyright fate here by keeping in the music, but fuck it--the soundtrack's a large portion of what made this game great. EA rarely ever disappoints in the licensed soundtrack department--I was totally singing along to "Keep It Coming."
Given how much I enjoyed this game, you could imagine how excited I was to finally get a hold of the 2010 Hot Pursuit reboot. ...and how disappointed I was by how tame I found it to be, in comparison to this. You'd think it'd be a beautiful love-child of Burnout Revenge and Hot Pursuit 2, but nope. The game's perfectly fine--it's playable, but I felt it lacked all the over-the-top intensity of this title. Sorry, Criterion, but I think EA Black Box did it right the first time.
