The Neo Geo Pocket and its Color counterpart were handheld gaming consoles developed and produced by SNK Corporation. Released in 1998, the Neo Geo Pocket was an attempt by SNK to enter the portable gaming market dominated by Nintendo's Game Boy. Its successor, the Neo Geo Pocket Color, was introduced in 1999 and aimed to address some of the limitations of its predecessor by adding a colour screen.
The Neo Geo Pocket featured a monochrome screen, a clicky joystick, and four buttons on the front, providing a unique control scheme for handheld gaming. It boasted a strong line-up of games, many of which were ports of popular Neo Geo arcade titles, showcasing the system's capability to deliver arcade-quality experiences on the go.
In 1999, SNK released the Neo Geo Pocket Color, which retained the original's design but added a vibrant color screen. This enhancement significantly improved the gaming experience and helped the system stand out in a competitive market. The Neo Geo Pocket Color supported backward compatibility with its monochrome predecessor while offering a new range of color-exclusive titles.
