Video of the (currently unnamed) Space Prototype's atmosphere simulation in action. To learn more about the upcoming game, check out the official devlog at:

In this video, I'm testing out the way atmosphere expands into other rooms when airlocks are opened.

The video starts out in the ship building mode, and switches to the simulation mode. After generating room data and enabling the tile overlay for visualization, I then add gas to the top left room.

Green means the room is at or above atmospheric pressure. Red means the room is a vacuum.

I then open all other doors on the ship before returning to the first room to let the gas loose.

As you can see from the changing colors, the pressure in other rooms starts to increase as the first room loses pressure. Closer rooms fill faster than more distant ones.

I also pump additional gas into another room on the lower right, and it backfills across the ship.

Behind the scenes, the rooms are also mixing temperatures, based on the amount of gas in each room (in moles). E.g. rooms with larger quantities of gas dominate temperature changes, so a small room at very high pressure could still overheat a large room at low pressure.

It's not a rigorous simulation, by any means. More of an approximation. But the outcome is designed to be a convincing illusion :)

Music is by Josh Culler, and is an unreleased track from the NEO Scavenger project.
