1I was very, very late to this party even though I normally prefer the 2D version of long running series. I know exactly why it didn't connect, though. It looked funny. It played weird. If you're used to the NES and SNES titles, it plays a very specific, exact way. There was also a large number of GBA and DS games that used a 3D approach to sprites and were plain awful, bland affairs. This really wasn't either, but the first impression hit me hard. It's still a little strange to get into, but sticking with it long enough to get over that makes a huge difference. It doesn't even take long. Just a level or two to adjust. And thus, I managed to ignore an amazing subset of Mario games.
