American technology journalist Nicholas Thompson discusses how we can build for digital health and what role AI will play in this healthcare revolution that has leapfrogged as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Healthcare has historically been too slow to change or adapt to new technologies. Change is hard for everyone, but especially in a space like healthcare where change meets the especially strong headwinds of regulation, reimbursement, and legacy systems. A recent McKinsey report discussed how healthcare professionals now see between 50 and 175 times the number of patients virtually than before the pandemic. These numbers are striking, yet unsurprising, given that almost all parties involved had no traditional care alternatives available.
