The answer is yes. It does give a different ending.

I'm enjoying this game so far, but man, it is ugly. I think I'm going to have to watch some gameplay clips (I knew nothing about this game going in) to see if it's just my game looking bad. I also wish 2B had at least moderately interesting character design. Yay, another dress.

Anyway, it's pretty clear the robots are not just mindlessly talking, and I felt bad having to initiate combat with Sephiroth guy, even if it was a painfully easy boss battle.
