The Video Game Crash aka The North American video game crash of 1983. Not to be confused with the myth of WORLDWIDE gaming crash.
Despite the Video Game Crash:
1) Home Computer Gaming was still successful in America
2) NES was very successful in Japan
3) Home Computer Gaming was very successful across Europe
"By 1982, computers dominating the European games market and growing throughout 1983 and 1984. By the time of the 1983 North American crash, the European video game industry was mostly computer-based and most games were made by European publishers. This allowed the European market to thrive despite the crashing American market."
North America =/= The World
