Nintendo Plans Upgraded Switch Replacement as soon as September
Nintendo plans to begin assembly as soon as July
will release upgraded replacement for its 4 year game console in september or october
new console likely to be priced higher than $299 original
may be announced ahead of the E3 conference (starting June 12th)
to allow publishers to showcase their full range of Switch games
it will be sold alongside $199 Switch Lite with $299 model phased out over time
assemblers will start shipping the new model as early as July
production planned to ramp up to a peak in the quarter from October-December
7-inch OLED display from Samsung
faster Nvidia - capable of 4k when docked with a TV (upscale? DLSS?)
Rising labor costs and part shortages likely to increase the price - suppliers expect their per-unit revenue to increase
stock has been rising for six straight days - supports theory of anticipation of new hardware
part shortages impact the cutting edge technology in XBX and PS5 more than Nintendo's hardware parts, but shortages, of course, are likely
SO WHAT DOES THIS MEAN
I'm thinking it'll be hard to get one, it'll be $349 or $399, the old dock won't work with the new Switch, but the old joycon will
I'm expecting full backward compatability with Switch games
I'm hoping for some exciting 3rd party announcements of games that will be on the Switch at E3 because of this
