This setup can actually go up to 8 players, 2 per Switch, but unfortunately I only managed 3 individuals this time. Nintendo Switch Sports is one of the few Switch games that supports wired offline LAN multiplayer - and is also the only (?) one I know of that doesn't also support Local Wireless. That's because the Soccer game mode uniquely supports 2 Joy-Cons per player, to play 8 player Soccer with 16 Joy-Cons between 4 Switches - the Switch has some kind of limitation that it can only really support 2 controllers while doing Local Wireless, so the wired LAN play gets around that.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe also has the exclusive ability to play with the full 12 players only while doing wired LAN play, but it makes less sense because 2 players per 6 Switches with 1 regular controller each seems like it should work fine. Then again, I can't think of any other Local Wireless Switch game that supports more than 8 players in any kind of config.

If you ever want to attempt this, I learned you do need to do some manual connection configuration if you try to do this through an offline hub, see this useful guide: https://www.judgeball.com/guidebook/vgc/vgc-2020-2022/lan-mode/

Anyway, we just tried whatever modes we could with the 3 of us. I played Stopdoor top-left. Did awful at Golf but redeemed myself at Bowling lol.
