NIPC, RMAFC, DBN Top On FOI Compliance, Report Faults Security Agencies.

Nigerian Investment and Promotion Council, Revenue Mobilisation and Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Development Bank of Nigeria and Nigerian Export Processing Zones Authority have emerged as the top four winners of the 2024 National Freedom of Information (FOI) compliance and transparency ranking.

The ranking which was conducted by a coalition of Civil Society Organisations was unveiled on Monday in Abuja.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer, Public Private Development Centre, Lucy Abagi said a total of 245 Ministries, Departments and Agencies were ranked in the 2024 edition.

Abagi who noted that the impact of promoting open governance through the FOI Act cannot be overemphasized said the essence of the ranking is to assess the level of proactive disclosure of public procurement data by public institutions.

Further analysis of the report scored security agencies and the judiciary low for not responding to requests made through the Freedom of Information Act.

On her part, the Program Manager, R2K Nigeria, Victoria Etim highlighted the criteria used for ranking the public institutions.

The National FOI ranking was put together by the Accountability Lab Nigeria, Public and Private Development Center, Media Right Agenda, International Center for Investigative Reporting, BudgiT Foundation and Right2Know

The theme of the 2024 edition is " Mainstreaming Access to Information and participation on the public sector".
