Kirby flying down to explore a novel area in the south of Popstar called the Popopo Islands, only to be attacked by a dark wizard named Necrodeus: the leader of a marauding band of skeletal creatures called the Skull Gang. He split Kirby into ten pieces, and almost defeats him as a result. But then Kirby's heroic heart spirits him away to safety. Thus Kirby's journey begins as he pummels his way through enemies to revert the splitening that has befallen him.
