I was playing vanilla Half-Life from Steam; not Source, and without any mods or file changes. I had just downloaded the game and verified my files.

I'm sure I've NEVER seen an attacking egg before! It seems like the Alien Grunt inside the egg somehow saw me through the walls of the egg and started attacking me from inside. The bug involved here is that the Alien Grunt should never have been alerted to my presence, because the egg fully covers it's line of sight, and also prevents it from being damaged.
