Nanrait's Videos Game Music #329 - Mega Man 8 - Tengu Man Theme

From Mega Man 8 (PlayStation, 1996)

-

I haven't played any Mega Man games, but I have listened to some nice Mega Man music, like this track, that is cool and breezy. There are different versions of Tengu Man's theme, there's the Sega Saturn version of Mega Man 8, and the SNES and GBA versions of Mega Man and Bass, but I like the PS1 one because it is not as intense. It is a little chirpy and happy.

I picked out this song because I saw the word 'Tengu' and was immediately curious. I didn't think a tengu-themed robot would be in a Mega Man game! And what would it look like? It was only a little after I learned about tengus in the first place. I found pictures on cover arts of PC-Engine and Super Famicom games that had drawings of red faced, white haired, long nosed fellas holding leaf fans and wearing Japanese sandals and I began to wonder, I thought they looked a lot like the Pokémon Shiftry. I looked at Shiftry on the internet and learned that it is nearly definitely based off of a tengu. That was when I also heard the word 'tengu' for the first time. I think it is cool that I could see this art but be totally unaware of its cultural inspiration, yet it would have been very obvious to other people in another part of the world.

Anyways, that is a little bit of a ramble. This song is nice. I hope everyone tries to have an okay day.
