I bought a geforce 7800 GTX 256 MB for a HTPC on ebay for $15. Boy was I surprised when I learned that it could still play todays games (as long as they're DX9 compatible) at very playable frame rates! L4D2 was played at 1280x720 at all high settings except shader detail. Antialiasing was ON and set to 4X. The result? Sustained 45-60 FPS, many times jumping into the 100s. With fraps recording the frame rate never dropped below 30.
