Testing HDR recording workflow using AW3423DW 43:18 4K ultrawide HDR10 monitor and Windows 11 with HDR enabled and Game Mode enabled, using OBS 29.1.3 and the recommended OBS settings from Nvidia with an RTX 4090. For this test HDR has been enabled both on the desktop and in-game. According to the only and most recent Nvidia article I could find, only HEVC supports HDR streaming at this time so I am using that.

Reference Guide: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/guides/broadcasting-guide/
(This guide lists 2019 but presumably it is up to date as the 4090 did not exist 4 years ago.)

Note: these same settings unfortunately produce an error when attempting to stream; I only found one report of this logged August 5, 2023 - but as of today I have the same error: "HDR output is disabled for this output."

I triple-checked that all settings matched what Nvidia had laid out in their article focusing on OBS and yet this error persists. Oddly - recording worked without the issue. I can only assume this is an ingest issue on YouTube's side under the new RTMPS (vs. legacy RTMP) but that is only a guess. Either that or it is a conflict in OBS.

Side Note: it's unclear whether AV1 will support it but the profile dropdown in OBS only allows a profile for "main10" when HEVC is chosen, even though AV1 is the superior compression format -- c'est la vie.

Final note; this game (and ME2 and ME3) in particular gives me grief because it has a strange hook issue in full screen when streaming so I must capture from the window. It is a quirk of this particular game that no matter whether you select Full Screen or Borderless Window you must either alt-tab out to engage the hook or you must choose the program "window" .exe manually in the OBS game capture source. Whether the game is set to Borderless or not appears to have no bearing in actual use. I have no idea what the cause or reason for this is. What you do not see in this video is my alt-tabbing and choosing the .exe to and then moving through one level of the in-game menu screen to engage the hook and get the capture.
