Okami Part 22: History Repeats and Repeats and Repeats.
Sometimes I think about how every moment in time is endlessly repeating.
...Or something like that.
Japanese fact:
Those "stone people" are called dogu. They are small humanoid and animal figurines made of clay and their original intended purpose is unknown. They were created in the were created in the Jōmon era (between c. 14,000 and 300 BC) and are very well-known in Japan today.
There are different variations of the dogu which I will briefly describe here:
Shakōkidogū (goggle-eyed dogu)- These are the most popular type of dogu and also the one that I am most familiar with. This one is also the one that Claydol from Pokemon is most likely based on. These figures appear to be wearing traditional Inuit snow goggles and are described as having exaggerated female butts, chests, and thighs (Though personally, I just see them as weird-looking robots). They have patterns on them that resemble tattooing.
Heart-shaped figurine- They have a heart-shaped head (the cartoon kind, not realistic). Skinny sucked-in bodies with nubby arms and legs. Not much info on them that I could find.
Horned-owl figurine- They have an owl-like appearance. Not much info.
Pregnant woman figurine- Seem to have been modeled after women as they have wide hips, large eyes, large butts, elongated nipples, and sometimes large abdomens as if they are pregnant. They are believed to have been symbols of fertility or representations of a goddess. Similar to the goggle-eyed dogu, but they don't have those strange eyes and usually no "tattoos" either (or very light on the "tattooing"- aka few markings/patterns).
