Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Worldtimer Review With Prices, Wrist Shots And Preowned Luxury Watches
Contact tmosso@thewatchbox.com for pricing and availability; Either I have it, or I can get it!
The Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Worldtimer is a luxury watch for buyers who desire every feature packed into a single product. While the Worldtimer requires a large wrist, the payoff is a timepiece equally appropriate as a sports watch or a dress watch. Unlike the Seamaster Professional dive watches or the entry-level Seamaster Railmaster, the Aqua Terra Worldtimer 150M is neither stark nor austere. And it’s one of the best men’s watch values to buy in 2022.
Omega launched its first Aqua Terra Worldtimer in 2017 as an 87-piece limited edition. At the time, the only configuration was a full platinum case with a dial of fired enamel, media blasted platinum, and yellow gold. The caliber 8939 movement was partially composed of rose gold, and the price of $48,600 meant that the first Aqua Terra Worldtimer was beyond the means of many Omega watch collectors.
But 2019 brought a reprieve for Worldtimer fans with Omega-sized budgets. Newly available in stainless steel, the 43mm Aqua Terra Worldtimer retailed for $8,900 – less than a Rolex Submariner Date. Today’s show features the Omega Worldtimer in its most popular form: stainless steel on a blue rubber strap with a steel deployant clasp.
Omega’s series production Worldtimer includes a complex but legible dial with several displays. Time is told by conventional hour, minute, and seconds hands at center. The minute hand displays the minutes after the hour for each time zone displayed. A rotating 24-hour ring can be used to read the current hour of day or night adjacent to any listed reference city. And 24 reference cities represent the 24 principal time zones of the globe. In a nod to Omega’s home city, “Bienne” replaces “Paris” in time zone GMT +1. Luminescent paint ensures that the local time can be read in the dark.
The Aqua Terra Worldtimer includes water resistance of 150 meters, and a silicon hairspring ensures that the watch is protected from magnetism in equal measure. Omega-exclusive caliber 8938 is an automatic winding movement with 60 hours of power reserve by means of twin mainspring barrels. A full balance bridge and free-sprung balance ensure durability, and ISO 3159 chronometer standards are used to certify the caliber 8938 as a Master Co-Axial. Omega’s co-axial escapement technology improves timekeeping and power reserve. For precise setting, stop seconds or “hacking” is included among the features.
