Way of the Sword was announced on December 13, 2024, at The Game Awards 2024 event, with scheduled release in 2026.
On February 2, 2025, during Sony's State of Play, a new trailer introduced the protagonist, Musashi Miyamoto. During Summer Fest 2025, on June 6, 2025, Capcom showcased another trailer focusing on the Formidable Foes and Ganryu Sasaki.
During Gamescom 2025, from August 20 to August 24, 2025, Microsoft featured a playable demo of Way of the Sword at their booth.[2] A new trailer was also revealed at Gamescom's Opening Night Live.
