I hadn't run the Japanese version yet and intended to compare it to the English/International version, so on a whim, I did that tonight and got sub-55. Some bad menuing and other mistakes kept me from sub-54, but I have a strange feeling--though no evidence--that this version of the game is "easier". Maybe I'll have better luck next time... whenever that will be.
