Otogi is Practically Perfect on Emulator Now | xemu v0.8.62
When I made the first video, I didn't even know how groundbreaking this update was. This really is what we've been waiting for!
After literally years of waiting and passing around custom builds of the emulator just to play Otogi and Otogi 2, the master branch of xemu has finally integrated the NaN handling fix in the vertex shader pipeline.
As I understand it, NaN values are not compliant with modern graphical rendering hardware, and the original Xbox used NaN values when rendering fog and specular textures in Otogi, Otogi 2, and some other titles. For the last few years, it appeared this "patch" to change any NaN to a '1' was the identified solution as it solved the visual bugs players encountered in the Otogi titles. However, it wasn't until recently when much more thorough testing went into the commit, as well as making sure no regressions in other games would result from its implementation. And today's the day where those efforts pay off because the commit is official integrated into the 5.15.25 release of the master branch! Thank you, abaire!
Also, whether it was part of this release or from some other update, the audio utilization bug may have been fixed, too. I did recently finish building a new PC, so I don't know if this is tied to hardware or not, but some of the most notoriously audio-intensive stages in Otogi and Otogi 2 no longer have issues playing back audio and sound effects. It would seem that Otogi and Otogi 2 plays nearly identical to original hardware on emulator.
