Operation Fortify - Part 1 - 3 Commando
GROUND
Southern Zargabad. Thin green country with little dense vegetation, pockets of small shrubs cover the rolling hills. Larger hills lay to the South and East of area of Ops, as well as dry, open desert to the south and far east.Wadi runs close to the North of Shahbaz, Dam and River to the West.
ENEMY
Currently it is estimated that insurgent activity in the ZGD AO numbers no higher than Troop strength at any given time. ICOM has revealed that they are co-ordinated, ruthless and rely on IEDs and enemy scouts/dickers to deter NATO and ANSF efforts in the AO. They are armed with Small Arms, RPGs and at least one Toyota Hilux type vehicle with HMG has been seen in the southern AO.
ENEMY INTENT
It is the overall intent of the enemy to remove NATO and ANSF forces from the ZGD AO, Shahbaz is a crucial command and control (C2) node for the enemy forces which they are using to control all enemy forces in S ZGD AO.
FRIENDLY FORCES
Currently there are small numbers of NATO troops providing OMLT mentoring to the ANSF forces in Zargabad. A small detachment of TF-196 (UKSF) were based in the old NATO base, however, they were deployed elsewhere 3 months ago, leaving one UKSF Liaison Officer. Resources are slim and defenses have degraded over time. Ops Coy 45 Cdo have been called in for a short Troop surge on the ground to deny the enemy several key resources in the ZGD AO.
CIV POP
The local population varies in its loyalties, depending where you are. Typically, civilians in Zargabad town are relatively friendly to NATO and ANSF, however, the further south you go the more hostile civilians become to outsiders, remaining loyal to the local Taliban commanders.
Due to last sessions killing of a Civilian, civilian tensions against ISAF and ANSF forces are quite high. Do not give them any further reasons to be against ISAF or ANSF forces.
