Ornatrix Maya | How to check real curve count for UE?
To verify the number of curves in Ornatrix Maya before exporting to Unreal Engine, assign an additional Edit Guides modifier on top of HairFromGuides.
This is important because the hair count value does not always match the number of exported curves. Often, this value is much lower (e.g., for eyelashes and eyebrows) or approximate. This depends on the interpolation and mesh type. Remember that Unreal Engine also has its own interpolation, so the number of curves may differ.
This video shows several examples of different hair types to help you understand why it's important to assign Edit Guides on top to get an approximate idea of how many hairs will be exported and imported into Unreal Engine.

0:00 - Showing on the example of a Plane how to find out the number of exported curves.
0:05 - Assign Edit Guides on top of HairFromGuides to find out this number.
0:08 - Most often it is equal to the number of hairs in HairFromGuides. This is only on a plane because it has a simple topology, flat UV, and so on. Interpolation works evenly.
0:34 - Export to Unreal Engine.
0:46 - We see that there are not 10K, but 9700. This is because Unreal has its own interpolation. But the result is the same. Although I did not compare in detail. Because I was satisfied with what I got in Unreal.
0:49 - Now I show on another example. Exporting hair from a complex mesh (eyebrows and eyelashes). That is, not a simple plane. Here, the number of hairs always differs from what you enter in HairFromGuides.
0:51 - For example, for eyebrows I entered 20K. And in the upper Edit Guides - 3334 Strands. Why? Because a mask was drawn, the geometry differs from a regular plane and interpolation worked.
1:05 - Before exporting, I always recommend collapsing the modifier stack. That is, to do Collapse Up To Here.
1:15 - Export this object to Unreal
1:19 - Next, eyelashes. There are also 20K of them.
1:28 - In Edit Guides - 964.
1:45 - Checking everything in Unreal Engine.
1:52 - Eyelashes, instead of 964 = 213.
2:02 - Eyebrows. Instead of 3334 = 2453.
2:10 - Outro, subscribe to the channel and Artstation. Other videos.
