Outbreak Origins PnP board game preview solo game
This week I've been playing a preview copy of the print and play board game “Outbreak Origins”. This is what I’m calling a "Think & Write" as there are no dice, no randomness and no turns. The game is set as a fictional bio-lab simulator game for 1 player. In a game, you select a mission, and it determines the victory conditions, e.g. “infect all the cells” and defines the viromes you have at your disposal. You use “action points” to trigger virome effects which impact the target cells and often generate more actions points.
In this video I give a very general overview of the game and play through one of the missions. This is a preview copy pre-Kickstarter so some elements may change. I’ve only seen a sub-set of the game with two missions and a draft of the rules. Game provided by the game designer for this video.

Game play errors :)

If that looks too easy, it was because I was a "bit" generous in my interpretation of virome placements. After some clarification it seems that VX-25 only fertilizes the viromes that have already penetrated the membrane, and that "fertilize" means write circles inside viromes. Duplication on the other hand is replicating copies of self and the confusion was all about those two actions. Guess I better play again. Fortunately it has a super fast setup - just wipe the board and go again.
