Outlast somehow carved out a huge following in the horror game community. In a lot of ways it follows the Amnesia formula. Solve some puzzles, hide from monsters, and run when you are caught. The only thing new it really brings is an emphasis on using your camera's night vision mode to see more clearly. It's a fun game for sure.
