Outlast Review - Just How Scary Is It?

Playing a video game essentially guarantees involvement in some sort of conflict. After all, we play games to win, an impossible achievement without some kind of force standing in the way to inflict loss. That force takes many forms across the medium, with some more formidable than others. Outlast, the first project from developer Red Barrels, initially released in 2013, offers up a true nightmare scenario. It doesn’t take 15 minutes for this game to make Goomba stomping or Pokemon catching look like a breezy walk through the park. There’s grotesque in no short supply, but is Outlast horrific for the right reasons?
