Okay, I can’t take any credit for this ‘Hunt the Testarossa’ idea, as it’s something that fellow YouTuber and equally obsessive Outrun 2 fan Noobsaibot21 first started (and who I first became aware of the different Testarossa design from in the first place – even though it was literally staring me straight in the face from the back of the box of my original Xbox version of Outrun 2 - and I’d just never noticed).

I am an Outrun 2 super fan. I love to obsess over the minutiae regarding the various differences in all the different versions of Outrun 2 and it's sequels and ports. I find myself both fascinated, that there are so many little differences in the game's, but also frustrated that there's STILL not a definitive version with all the best bits in (and owing to Sega no longer possessing the Ferrari license, there probably never will be. Boooooo!).

For example, when I first heard that the Scud Race and Daytona USA 2 tracks in the Japanese OG Xbox port of Outrun 2 were visually superior and more accurately based on the arcade titles they were inspired by, compared to the ones we got in the Western game, I obsessed over that, until I eventually ended up getting the kit required to softmod my OG Xbox so I could try them out for myself (see the difference for yourself here on the Scud Race tracks: https://youtu.be/4PtmQVxLMis). When I heard that the Japanese PlayStation 2 version of Outrun 2 SP contained the extra end of goal animations (from the arcade version of SP) that were missing in all the other home ports of Coast 2 Coast, I obsessed about that, until I was able to track down an ISO of the game to try out on PCSX2 emulator. Anyway, you get the idea. I'm obsessed with the small details…

So, when I found out that the original Sega Chihiro arcade game had a unique version of the Ferrari Testarossa, that was different in its design to how it’s subsequently appeared in all the other arcade and home versions of Outrun 2 since then… well naturally this began to fuel a new obsession. Fortunately, it’s possible now to have go at using this unique version of the Testarossa at home, in the OG Xbox emulator CXBXR. That’s because it can play a Beta version of the Chihiro game, albeit, in a fairly broken state.

However, there is just one other place that this original Testarossa design’s appeared, and that was as a rival car in the demo version of the original Xbox port of Outrun 2. So, let’s scratch that OCD itch I’ve got for more minor Outrun 2 differences and let's go OG Testarossa spotting….
