After trying out the Reno air races for Microsoft Flight Simulator, I kept running into an issue with the P51 Mustang, where the engine would die mid flight, a little over halfway through the race. For a while I was thinking it was due to over stressing or over heating the engine, or perhaps even from flooding/starving the engine from excessive aerial maneuvers.

It turns out however that it's simply a fuel problem! These old warbirds don't have automatic fuel systems, and so eventually you will need to manually switch fuel tanks to avoid running out of fuel and losing engine power mid flight.
