On your way from Mardan to Swabi, opposite to the Ashoka Rock edicts, there lies a historical town of Gandhara civilization named Shahbaz Garhi, you can see the grave of an English citizen, namely Paddy Jones. Paddy Jones was born December 6th 1942. Paddy Jones was one of the admirers of Gandhara civilization. Paddy Jones was fascinated by the culture and lifestyle of Gandhara civilization. He lived here for a life. He died in Madyan of district Swat, on August 8th of 1976. Paddy Jones was buried in Shahbaz Garhi, what he wished in his will.
On the opposite side of Mardan to Swabi road lies the Rock edicts of Ashkoa, the Rock edicts of AShoka is a prominent and historic symbol of Gandhara civilization. His will to be buried in Shahbaz Garhi reveals the fact that, this is a land of peace and love, and this civilization has attracted people from all corners of the world.
There is no documented record of his purpose of visit but his will and sepulchre reveals his affection for Shahbaz Garhi. His tomb stone testifies his death at a younger age, but the cause of his death is still a mystery. It’s not known if he died of natural or accidental cause, but his will proves his affection and fondness for the natives of Shahbaz Garhi.
