In this series I will be playing some well known and less well known games all the way from yesteryear through to the present, sometimes from consoles and sometimes from the thousands of PC games available either through websites such as Steam, Good Old Games (GOG), as abandonware, (Home of the Underdogs) or through emulation software. (Such as WinVice C64)
In this episode I have the pleasure of sharing yet another indie game with you lovely people just before it is released, namely Riptale by Super God! I LOVE the aesthetics of this game. It takes me back to playing on my friends ZX Spectrum as a youngster except the gameplay in this is a LOT faster... not unfairly so but you do need to have your wits about you! In Riptale you are tasked with hacking and slashing all manner of monsters and dragons which have taken over then land using the power of 3 crystals you have required. These crystals limit you to 3 combos attacks at a time so you cannot just spam the attack button and hope for the best, you'll have to be deadly precise in order to succeed! The crystals can be swapped out in shops to allow for custom combo attacks to be used which makes finding something which works for you an interesting task as you can put them in any order you like!

ANCIENT MONSTERS HAVE RISEN
Buried inside the earth for thousands of years mighty dragons have been clawing their way out. Now, these reptilian beasts are terrorizing villagers on the surface. It is time to delve into the depth of the cavern and unearth the source of these vile creatures.
UNLOCK ABILITIES WITH MYSTERIOUS GEMS
The dragons are too powerful for normal people to oppose. With the help of wonderous gems, an old warrior Kumo is able to push back the serpents. To be able to vanquish the overwhelming threat, Kumo must gather all the gems. With the unleashed power he can face whatever mysteries wait uncovering in the abyss.
SHARPEN YOUR OLD FAMILY BLADE
Only the most skilled champion can withstand the terrors of the deep underground. The old civilizations buried into the earth shelter many dangers that were not meant to be disturbed by ordinary folk. Unless you are an adept sword-wielder, you have no business venturing further.
Riptale is a 2D action game aiming to make sword combat be as bloody and impactful as possible. The player collects gems that allow them to execute different attacks in the order of their choosing. All this results in a symphony of combos that fill the screen with blood and guts. If Riptale was a board game it would shoot scissors at you.
Instead of erratic hacking of the attack button the player must instead first aim at their target and then strike. The attacks are powered by arcane gems which make them powerful enough to bring down the ancient dragons threatening the world. Each gem takes a few moments to recharge, which means the attacks must be planned carefully lest they run out at the worst possible moment.
