Padge Plays! Retro Edition - Point Blank / Gun Bullet (Arcade & PS1 - 1994/1997 - Namco) Gameplay
Welcome to Padge Plays! Retro Edition
In this episode we're shooting for the sky... and criminals... and ninjas... and the occasional alien in the arcade light gun game Point Blank by Namco! Also known as Gun Bullet in Japan, this is my favourite light gun game from the arcades of yore due to it's frantic fun style based upon multiple silly mini games leading up to a firework finish. It's purely points based and unlike other well known light gun games and due to the sheer amount of stages available means no 2 play throughs are ever the same, which means more variety and more bang for you hard earned buck. As I have been messing around with the MAME emulator a lot more in lockdown I have started to expand beyond the standard controller based arcade games of the past to games such as this and although this iteration is mouse based it still encapsulates the fun of the arcade original. I loved this game so much I also had it on the Playstation 1, ( PS1) and because of this I was put in to a dilemma which inspired me to write in to a game magazine and my letter was chosen to be printed... so technically I'm a published writer! But I'll save that story for the video. :D
So join me as we shoot everything that moves, (including some things we shouldn't) in the arcade light gun game Point Blank!
-- ABOUT THE GAME -- (From Moby Games)
Point Blank is a light gun arcade game, in which players shoots targets in a wide variety of stages. The Playstation version uses the G-Con gun, for action similar to Time Crisis, also by Namco.
The game has a distinct cartoon theme and is non-violent, making it suitable for all ages. Each stage has a different objective, explained at the start of each stage. This varies from simple target shooting (and avoid to shoot bomb), shooting cardboard villains (avoid shooting cardboard civilians), shooting own color targets (avoid shooting opposing players color), protecting the iconic Dr.Don and Dr. Dan, and many miscellaneous challenges such as the Galaxian stage where lightgun is used in place of spaceships to shoot aliens.
The stages are presented in groups of 4 and the player or players can choose in which order to play them. You lose a life-heart when you shoot an incorrect target or bomb, or when you fail to complete a mission within the time limit.

In this series I will be playing some well known and less well known games all the way from yesteryear through to the present, sometimes from consoles and sometimes from the thousands of PC games available either through websites such as Steam, Good Old Games (GOG), as abandonware, (Home of the Underdogs) or through emulation software. (Such as WinVice C64)
