Paladin Party Overload| Player 911| D&D Discusions
Original Player 911
I have an issue that arose at my game group on Wednesday and thought it might be an interesting issue to discuss in a video or article. I’m not going to name any names of specific people though.

So in our last 5e D&D session, I was playing an Unearthed Arcana Artificer, and unfortunately I got killed by a Lich. You know it happens, you buck up, you re-roll, you keep playing. Anyway having seen some of your more recent videos, and with my DM green lighting it, I decided to create a character looking at the new Volo’s Guide and the new Unearthed Arcana class features. So I crafted my character and backstory and ended up playing an 8th level Fallen Aasimar Paladin. Seems a bit unusual but my DM wanted him to be evil to tie him in to a plot line.

So, anyway, as DMs do, he wanted to introduce my new character (and also a friend’s new character) at the same time and with quite a cool/interesting sequence to draw us in with the rest of the party members.

So we’re playing and obviously it becomes apparent quite quickly what my character is.

And then, and this is more what I’m putting forward as the topic, my friend sat next to me starts being a little off with me. Not wanting to engage with the rest of the party etc etc etc. Now the reasoning he gave me when I tried to talk to him afterwards is that he’s the groups Paladin and he’s been the main damage dealer for the whole time we’ve been playing (Coming up to two years in this adventure now) and starts complaining that I’ve only picked a Paladin to try and be better than him, and etc etc etc. Personally I didn’t even consider any of this when I built the character, I was just making one up. And upon discussing with other members of the group they all agreed that we as a party don’t have enough damaging characters, so to speak, as most of us were playing support classes, such as Bard or Artificer.

And I mean, I’m totally accepting if you guys think I am in the wrong because I chose to play another Paladin but I just thought it was a topic you guys might be interested in. If you need more info, feel free to e-mail with more questions.
