On September 18th, Nintendo declared in a statement that it had filed a lawsuit alleging patent infringement and that it was demanding damages. It is noteworthy that the company chose to pursue this legal route rather than one involving copyright, even though it has obviously spent the better part of a year developing its case and ascertained that this is the most likely course of action. The company did not specifically identify which patent rights it believes Palworld crosses.
In a statement, Pocketpair said it’s “unaware of the specific patents we’re accused of infringing upon, and we’ve not been notified of such details”. It continued: “Pocketpair is a small indie game company based in Tokyo. Our goal as a company has always been to create fun games. We will continue to pursue this goal because we know that our games bring joy to millions of gamers around the world.”
