PANTHER VR Gameplay // Feels Like Splinter Cell VR ..in VERY Early Access // Panther VR Stealth Game
Are you waiting patiently for that new Splinter Cell VR game? Or perhaps you're quietly hoping for a James Bond VR game to be announced at some point, afterall who wouldn't want a 007 VR experience! I'm personally terrible at stealth games but the thought of Splinter Cell VR has got me excited to try my hand at sneaking around in virtual reality so today I jumped into the early access VR game, Panther VR. Panther VR is a stealth focused game that tasks players with using their gadgets, environment & stealth skills to pull off heists without anyone even knowing they were there in the first place, it's a classic stealth game setup & I wouldn't be surprised if some of the mechanics found here ended up making their way into the Splinter Cell VR game we're going to be getting soon. Is Panther VR worth your time... well, let's find out.
The biggest things that Panther VR has going for it are the visuals & the gadgets. I love the art style of Panther VR, it reminds me of a certain era of first person shooters & recalls games like Timesplitters or XIII, it isn't cartoony but also isn't painfully realistic. Everything has a soft edge to it & the environments are huge expansive spaces, if you're the type of person who likes to plan out their routes & approach stealthy situations with careful management then the level design will certainly appeal to you. The gadgets are also great, though limited at this point in time. My personal favourite is the deployable remote control drone which has been pulled straight from Rainbow Six Seige. Use it to mark enemies & scope out areas beyond doors & around corners.
Sadly this is where the positives end for Panther VR in it's early access VR state, the game is being made by just two people & although the project is exceptionally ambitious many of the systems feel clunky & unpolished right now. Reloading guns is a bit wonky, colliding with the world often creates issues, enemy AI leaves a huge amount to be desired, there are only 2 levels right now (which both take place in the same environment) & there only appears to be two guns in the entire game. Is it Splinter Cell VR? No, but it has some great ideas & could grow into something great. Add this one to your wishlist & keep an eye on it but in it's current state I'd say save your hard earned pennies.
