Now we have a new party member: Koops the Koopa.

Unlike Kooper in Paper Mario, Kooper has an actual Defense stat. A Defense stat of 1, to be precise. Like Kooper, he can use Shell Toss and Power Shell, but his field ability is upgraded in the sense that Koops can be held in place and then after you release the button, he will be launched. The downside is his low HP compared to the other partners and his low damage output. That, and he has the same weaknesses as a normal Koopa Troopa: aerial attacks flip him over, and he's useless against aerial targets. At Super Rank, he gains Shell Shield, which can protect Mario from attacks for a while, and at Ultra Rank, he gains Shell Slam, which nails all ground enemies and ignores defense.

So thus, with Koops in tow, we're off to Hooktail's Castle!
