Path of Exile - An Editorial - My Thoughts On Adding Blight To The Core Game
Blight has been a middle-tier league for me. Much better than Legion or Bestiary, but not as good as Delve or Synthesis.
The fact that many of you probably disagree with that ordering shows just how polarizing the league has been.
It's been a horrible league for people with lower end PCs.
I want to see Blight go core in a way that doesn't shove itself down the throat of players that didn't like it, but that keeps it available for players that are willing to seek it out.
Concrete suggestions - Blight Encounters:
- Put Blight encounters into about 6 otherwise underutilized zones in the Acts, so there is early access to +30 stat anoints and other useful early game options like Diamond Skin. Veteran players will just sprint past these, but they'll be there for other people.
- Speed up the start of blight encounters. Once you end the preparation time or it runs out, it should be hectic and unrelenting.
- Add ways to seek out Blight encounters through Zana missions, Alva's Poison Garden room, Blight scarabs (linked to Tora and shuffling her other things around), and in Niko's mines.
- Add ways to encounter Blights more randomly through Prophecies and Sextants
- Don't add them as a Zana mod. They'll become the only correct choice unless the price is extremely high, because Blights are lucrative.
Concrete Suggestions: Blighted Maps
- These need an overhaul in risk vs reward so that running them "chiselled and scoured" is no longer the objectively correct choice.
- I propose removing map anoints, and replacing them with an implicit "One Blight reward chest is Lucky for each map modifier affecting this area"
- As well as dropping from Blights, these should drop from:
- Tacati, Architect of Toxins (Alva's temple)
- A new Beastcraft recipe
- Delve nodes in the Fungal Caverns biome
- Tora's "Timed Item Traps" in Transportation
Concrete Suggestions: Oils
- Current drop rates won't work well when there are less Blights.
- Whatever setup is used, I think it should be reasonable to expect a player that does Blights when available to be able to afford their "best in slot without spending silver or gold" anoint no later than hitting 80/159 Atlas, and their actual best in slot anoint should be as hard to acquire as the very top tier core game unique items (e.g. Inspired Learning, Soul Taker, a 'one great mod' Watcher's Eye, etc)
- Oils should come from Blight encounters, plus Petrified Forest nodes in Delves, plus Tora's timed item traps, plus new Beastcrafting recipies.
