PATHFINDER 2E REMASTER | Problems with DETECT MAGIC
While we have been enjoying most of the changes from the Pathfinder 2e Remaster, not everything has been sunshine and rainbows.
Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gamed has already run into a problem which we feel is bigger than anyone realizes, and that problem is with the new Detect Magic!
The old Detect Magic gave information on the specific spell school (at higher levels) to inform the player what kind of magic they were dealing with. Although not absolute information, it was helpful in directing player action when interacting with an unknown magic.
With the Remaster removing the concept, and language of spell schools, this has left a void in information given through Detect Magic, now only alerting you of magic, and what is the highest source, but removing all context of spell school, which gave the player general information on what the magic COULD do.
This is a problem for Game Masters on how they describe magic to players, and for players to know what to do, and what to expect, which could lead to incorrect assumptions, or player inaction.
Jared and Steve put their heads together to try to remedy this issue with a homebrewed rule what only adds back in what was removed from Detect Magic, while not referencing the old spell schools.
