Some background info:
This is not really a SingePlayer mode like the ones you would find in a story driven FPS game. Originally we intended to included a bot driven singleplayer mode like the one that can be found in UT99. But due to time constraints it didnt work out.
Sometime after the game was released in stores and ppl asked about the SinglePlayer mode that was supposed to be there according to the gamebox, EMH_Mark3 and me decided to create a SP mode with additional help from TomatoPaste who wrote the story stuff.
The SP mode had to work with existing unmodified maps, as we didnt want to redistribute all the maps again (most ppl had 56k at that time), so we basically were limited to a code only solution.
The way it worked was, that bots would spawn at the beginning of the round with a predetermined loadout at pathnodes that were already in the map. Additionally you could spawn an objective and end volume that triggered additional bots or the end of the level. All this was done via an ini file that I edited.
Of course the bot AI in TO is almost non-existant, as it was a MP only game to begin with. This is one reason why the bots dont react when members of their team get shot right in front of their face - or dont do shit when anything else happens;) In some maps invisible "alarm"triggers were placed that basically tells them where you are.
Overall the quality of the SP experience was quite poor, but it did the job when you think about the limits we had to work with. Due to the insane difficulty of some missions (each bot can kill you, and no health upgrades, so ppl wouldnt play through it in one day) it was alot of Trial&Error when i created this video, I had to replay some missions 20 times;) I was quite surprised how hard i had made them;)
Anyway - have fun watching it - but dont complain about the horrible AI ;) -
