This is Peter Jackson's King Kong.

I have to say, this is probably the best movie-based game I have ever played.

This game is part FPS, part action game. For the majority of the game, you play as Jack Driscoll, the writer and main human character in the movie. From the first-person perspective of Jack, you must try and get of the island and get back to the ship while avoiding numerous pre-historic animals that want to kill you. The difference between most FPS games is the fact that by default, there is absolutely no heads-up display at all. This would seem like it would make the game extremely difficult and unfair, but Ubisoft Montpelier implemented some clever design choices to prevent that from happening. There are no health pickups, no items to collect apart from a variety of guns, spears, and a lever; The levels are very linear but still intricately designed to prevent the player from getting lost; and finally, checking your current ammunition supply is as simple as pressing a button, prompting Jack to say aloud how much he has left by stating something like "Four magazines on backup". Is sounds strange, but it works brilliantly. King Kong is perhaps the best example of how to make a game work without any onscreen distractions.

Kong's sections are also good, but nowhere near as good as Jack's levels.

Overall, this is an excellent game with great atmosphere.

Oh, and there's also a GIANT ENEMY CRAB that Jack can kill by hitting its weak point to cause MASSIVE DAMAGE. No, seriously, watch the video and see for yourself.
